Hunter was getting ready for his first day of work. Before he’d left, he had done odd jobs at his parent’s work, but now he was older and could get a job on his own. Before he got back, he’d called mom and dad to ask around, and sure enough, Gordy’s Sandwich Shack was hiring, and they were really short on waiters. So, Hunter had called and sent him his resume, and after a quick interview over the phone, and an assurance from his parents, Hunter had been guaranteed a job when he came home. So, here he was, driving to the Sandwich Shack for his first day of work.
As he parked his slightly beat-up 2008 GMC fire red truck, Hunter smiled to himself. He felt he was really turning things around. He’d earned quite a big bundle of money while he was away in Hope, and had proven to his dad he could take care of a vehicle, so they’d talked his dad’s friend and co-owner of the child center and he’d paid for Mr. Mathis’s red truck for a good price. Now, he was going into his first job since he returned to Serenade. He’d only been there a few days, but he had to jump right into his job. He hadn’t even returned to school yet, but he was already making money.
Back in Arkansas, Hunter had been reluctant to get a job, but after he’d had pretty much everything taken away because of his behavior, he’d been left pretty much no choice. So, he gone out and started mowing lawns and raking leaves and washing vehicles; just about anything he could find. Eventually, he worked his way out of the neighborhood. He borrowed a bike and rode to the nearest business, a local family-owned general store. He asked if they’d needed any help, and was given a job as basically an odd-job man. Once he had his permit, his uncle had eventually let him borrow their old family truck they’d had so he could help out at the owner’s ranch to earn more money. He’d stayed there until he’d gotten his driver’s license. He passed his job onto his younger cousin and gotten a job in town as a busboy and Mr. Fix-it for a local restaurant. He worked his way up to a waiter and cashier, and eventually a sous-chef. But then he’d come home, and so here he was, a waiter at Gordy’s place, but he was fine with that.
Hunter hopped out of the truck and walked inside, taking in everything as he walked to the back and checked in. Soon enough, he was out on the floor, waiting on customers and getting back into the groove…
